| Project Title: |
“Zoom In!,” a film competition and public screening on the theme of “community,” produced by the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival in partnership with the Lavender Film Festival and the Indie Spirit Film Festival
|
| About Our Project: |
“Zoom in!” is designed to engage film lovers of all kinds: those who want to create and those who want to appreciate. Our project accomplishes this in two phases. The first phase is an all-inclusive free film competition where we invite everyone in the Pikes Peak region (students, first-timers, professionals, everyone!) to produce short films (1 to 8 minutes in length) that tell a story of what “community” means to them. A film about “community” could communicate why this region moves and inspires the filmmaker, despite the region’s current economic, social and political struggles. A film about “community” could tell the story of a homeless person and the life he or she has created with a tent on the bank of the river. A film about “community” could take us on a personal, professional, or spiritual journey the filmmaker has been on in the Pikes Peak region. We will be looking for films that are emotionally touching, important, entertaining, and visually impactful.
Our vision is to create a local event that celebrates the spirit and diversity of our region and communicates that we are “a community of possibilities, not a community of problems.” The second phase is the “Zoom In” Celebration Festival that will showcase the great work our local filmmakers have created. The submitted films will first be screened by a selection committee comprised of members from all three partnering organizations – Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival, the Lavender Film Festival and the Indie Spirit Film Festival – and the finalists will be voted on by a diverse community panel to ensure a strong cross-representation of points of view. The “Zoom In” Celebration Festival will be held at Stargazers Theater and prize money will be awarded in several different categories, including Grand Prize, Best Film by a First-Time Filmmaker, and Best Student Film.

| About Our Organization: |
Now in its 22nd year, RMWFF is dedicated to celebrating the drive, spirit and diversity of women through a three-day film festival every fall. RMWFFF is the longest continuously running women’s film festival in the world. Prior to each festival, films also are screened in a variety of venues throughout the community, such as schools, libraries and other civic spaces.
|
| How The Project BenefitsThe Community: |
Our project will help create community through the collaboration of three well-established film festivals that have combined forces and creative juices to put on one special competition and film showcase. We also are inviting everyone in the community to participate – students, novices and professionals – because we want to hear what inspires filmmakers of all kinds from all walks of life. Finally, we will invite the community at large to attend a fun, inclusive, community-building event to watch and celebrate the winning films. Our ultimate goal? To establish Zoom In! as an annual competition and film festival that the community can look forward to each year.
